Okay - I read somewhere that If you opt for Co-Op course, you get your work-permit along with the study permit as soon as you land that means no 6 months waiting period.

In case what I read is true, can you use that work permit to work off-campus right from the time you start your college? I plan to start in Jan14.

Work permit issued at POE doesn't allow you to start working from day one (for international students). It's usually issued to co-op program applicants. However, they also need to qualify for the same. Actual study of 6 months (one semester, of course needs to successfully pass it), be enrolled for a full time program etc and there you go for OCWP. You apply for SIN and you start working. For On campus jobs, you don't even need work permit, just an employment letter from the college/uni and you are good to go.

Now talking about you, as you particularly mentioned Jan 2014 intake. The proposed change is, International students will be allowed to work part time off campus from first semester itself without waiting for 6 months. However, as it's not into effect at the moment, so I think nobody is really sure how it's going to work. But it surely is a good change.
