I recently obtained my Canadian Citizenship and would like to apply for the OCI. Before Canada, I spent a few years in the US where I got married to a US citizen and divorced, for which I have a US County Court notarized copy (I don't have the original). According to the BLS checklist:
REQUIREMENTS:
- Divorcee applicants are required to submit their divorce certificate. Please note: EX-Parte divorce certificates, court letter is not accepted.
- If divorced in another country, divorce certificate to be authenticated by the county’s Embassy and furthermore attested by the Consulate General of India, Toronto.
For those in similar situation what did you do to succesfully submit the OCI application? I checked the US Consulate website and it is stated that they cannot (by law) offer notary services for marriage/divorce documents so I am not entirely sure how to proceed with the second requirement in the list.
Any help would be appreciated!
