hello. i am required to submit my police clearance from the US from when i was there studying. however, I am in Zimbabwe, and have to family or contacts in the US. how can i get this police check?

You'll need to get your fingerprints done by a professional and submit those to the FBI, essentially. The FBI can send you an e-mail document reply or can mail it to you. I highly suggest applying online as I found the turnaround to be VERY swift (I submitted on a Thursday and got a reply on the WEEKEND. This was by couriering it overnight so it arrived on the Friday morning, I believe). Not as hard as it sounds, assuming you can get your fingerprints taken pretty easily.

As you mention before, you applying online for US Background Check to FBI. Do you mind to share a website address for applying online? Because I am trying to apply online on their website, but it always comeback with “the page you are trying to open not found.” Maybe there is a different website address that work for applying online?
The easiest way is through this link: https://www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/identity-history-summary-checks
I suggest electronically submitting your request so you can receive an e-mailed copy and then can decide if you'd like it mailed as well. Scroll down to "Option 1" and click the link there. Under "How To Submit a Request," enter your e-mail. The FBI will send you a code to that e-mail you can use to create your request and give you the address to mail your fingerprints to. You do have to pay for the privilege of using this service haha.
