Hi there

Just wondering if anyone knows if support letters need to be notarized for common-law relationships?
Our parents have both written letters for us and we are planning on sending some from friends as well.
But since they are all from different countries it could be problematic to get them signed off.
Also how many are allowed? Should there be more than 2?

Thanks in advance!

It does not say anywhere that they need to be. It used to be a requirement but not any more.

Hi

If they are just general support letters, don't bother.

If any letter is being used as proof of financial support or being used in place of a lease, then it's a good idea to get it notarized.

I submitted three support letters, two were notarized, one wasn't. The two I had notarized were supporting evidence of my intention of returning to Canada since I am living abroad right now. The one that wasn't notarized was a letter to proof the authenticity of our relationship. So its really up to you and the purpose of the letter.
