Notarised common law relationship.

Unfortunately after almost 5 years together my relationship has broken down recently. In my opinion she became very abusive and I did not feel safe living with her anymore toward the end, so a good friend offered me a spare room at his place for a while as I have no family close by.

She is currently holding a good amount of my valuables and mail hostage and is mostly refusing to communicate with me, only responding to be threatening or insulting.

As unpleasant as the situation is, especially during all the pandemic stuff, I'm not asking for any sympathy, just a little information if anyone can help.

We had been living together for almost 3 years and were considered common law. We had the relationship notarised in order for her to sponsor my PR a while back. I was under the impression that in Ontario a common law marriage was ended simply when the two partners decided to end it and live separately again, with few legalities involved if there are no children etc.
At least that's what a couple hours on google came up with, Is this correct even if the relationship is notarised? or is there a specific legal process which I must go through to officially end it.

Kind regards
MM
