Notarisation Queries

Dear all,

I was in the process of getting notarised reference letter affidavits for my work experience in addition to attaching employer issued skill certificates, pay-stubs and all other documents. I had a query with the notarised reference letter affidavits -

  • Do I have to buy the stamp paper in my name necessarily? In India (don't know about the rest of the world), stamp papers are sold to specific people and the name is mentioned on the same. Would getting a stamp paper in a third person's name affect the application?
  • The notary public also mentioned that there are two kinds of notaries. One in which he attests that the document was "signed before him" and the other in which he just attests the signature and notarises the affidavit. Which one is the right one? And, would the absence of a "signed before me" stamp affect the validity of such an affidavit?
  • Also, in case of my other documents which are on company letter heads (which I'll have to get printed since they're issued as soft copies), does CIC also insist that they be notarised as well?

Thanks.

A self attested or self made reference letter is not acceptable. You will have to ask your collegue or supervior to sign it.

1. No problem
2. I assume the first one.
3. Not required.

Thanks StAnger. I will get it from colleagues/bosses only and no self-declarations in my case.
I'll then have to tell them to get it done by a local notary since they won't attest it as "Signed before me" without their physical presence.
