So, my husband and I because permanent residents in February 2008, and lived in Canda until Pvtober 2010- counting out the time spent away, we spent over 820 days in Canda, which means we hit the 730 days objective.
this is what the CIC website says: To keep your status as a permanent resident, you must have been physically present in Canada for a minimum of 730 days (not necessarily consecutive days) within the five years following the date on which you were granted permanent resident status.
In October 2010 we moved to Brazil, our PR expires on March, and we're planning to move back to Canada in July, by which time our cards will have expired.
Based on the CIC website, we'll have been Permanent Residents for over 5 years:If you have been a permanent resident for Five (5) years or more you must have been physically present in Canada for a minimum of 730 days within the past five (5) years.
Since by July we'll have been in Brazil for almost 3 years, does that mean we'll have lost our PR? Can we apply for a travel document, or need to start from zero, applying for the temporary work permit?

Help, please!!!

You spent 820 days in Canada between February 2008 and October 2010. However, it is now March 2013 so the days you stayed in February 2008 have moved outside the window of the past 5 years and are not counted any more.

If you apply for a travel document at a time that you still can say that you have 730 days in Canada in the past 5 years counting from the day you apply, you should get it. From what I have heard, travel documents are usually valid for 6 months so if you arrive in Canada at a point that you do not meet the residency obligation any more, it would be safer for you to not apply to renew your PR cards until you have spent a full two years in Canada and meet the requirements again.
