Hello there,

I was granted PR in 2011 and my PR card is going to be expired next month. I only was in Canada for landing for about 15 days during that time in 2011 and haven't come to Canada since then due for having good job in another country and then my parents need attention in last 18 months. I went my home country and stayed there till now.

I understand I did't meet the PR obligation. I only have PR card and SIN number and didn't apply for health card and never report my tax. Just wondering to know if there are any other way to keep my PR?

Is PR card used only for entering to Canada? or we must hold a valid PR card for job seeking and other affairs in Canada? I have other nationality passport and I can come to Canada even with expired PR card, but I don't know can I stay and apply for job after that?

Thanks for your kind answer.

Hi Nima, you can enter Canada before your PR card expired via air, sea or other ground transportation. However, if you enter after your PR card is expired, you need to use your landing record. You may be reported and have to appeal to allow you to stay with strong H&C reason. Current, good job overseas reason will not fly. So, if you still want to live in Canada, please return before your PR card is expired. The best is to go through US border by car with Canadian plate. You do not need PR card to apply for job. If you have passport from visa exempt country, then you can enter with that but you still need to wait for 2 years to be able to apply for extension of your PR card. It is best to stay for 2 years straight. Good luck.

Even when trying to enter with a valid PR card, CBSA can easily see you don't meet the RO and report you, leading to revoking of your PR status. It doesn't sound like you have a good H&C reasons to win an appeal.
