Hi there, Im applying to be allowed to stay longer than the 6 months standard that UK residents can visit canada, and im slightly confused about something, I've sent the forms off to apply, but the waiting times im guessing are going to be longer than the 6 weeks i have left in the country, If my extension is granted while im out of the country will I be able to just come back and show my passport and it'll all be on record for them to see that i've applied? Also i've heard people with a TRV can stay in the country while their application is processed, im slightly confused about these two things so any help would be great.
Thanks!

Well you left the country and you can come right back in because you actually don't need a visa to come in. It's up to the officer at POE whether to let you in or not depending upon the purpose of your visit. You came for a visit, didn't you? Some visa-exempt visitors leave for the US for a day or two and come right back in with no problem.

Yes but i will have been here for 6 months before leaving, and as i understand it I then have to leave for 6 months before being allowed to come back in unless my extension is aproved. Is this correct or am i misunderstanding something?

Technically you are allowed 6 months each entry. Say you entered Canada January 1, 2009 and was allowed a 6-month stay, and left June 30, 2009 (assuming that is 6 months - 180 days) and you came back July 2, 2009, unless the officer at the port of entry put an end date on the day of your entry you are allowed another 6 months (180 days). At least that is how I understand it for visa exempt countries such as the UK.
