My sponsor is very low income (around $11k/annually). Unfortunately she may not meet the criteria to have her disability benefits renewed for 2018 since she started working part-time.
EIA is the name of Manitoba's welfare system - Employment and Income Assistance. She was thinking of applying for "Non-EIA Rent Assist", which is a shelter benefit for low income Manitobans: https://www.gov.mb.ca/fs/eia/non_rentassist_facts.html
We're just trying to find out if Manitoba's Non-EIA Rent Assist would be considered "social assistance (welfare)" under IRCC's judgement. I'm curious if anyone knows, or if I should enquire with the call centre in this case?
