Sorry to bring in this question to this forum (i will delete it later). Some of you are dual citizens so might be able to answer this.

A person has two citizenship and now lives in the US with the US visa on one of his passport. He had applied to visit another country using his other passport. Will they issue a visa for that country on his second passport since his US visa is in his first passport?

Rupeshhari, my personal experience only....

If he is on US visa only than any embassy within USA will issue visa on same passport where he/she has US visa. I think its because documents which showing your legal status.

For example, I have Citizenship of "A" and "B" , now I am in "C" , so how did I reach in "C", mean which passport using reach in "C" , so now if I want go some where from "C" , visa will be issued on same passport where is visa for "C".

Hops this helps, P.S, every thing is possible in this world :))))))

It depends on what passport he/she submits. I have had up to 3 valid visas in one passport.

Thanks Mahharrouf and GK.

My friend is a citizen of South Africa and Zimbabwe and he is in the US on a Zimbabwean passport. Previously, South Africans didn't need a visa to Switzerland so my friend traveled from US to Switzerland for holidays. Last november, they brought in the rule that South Africans need visa to Switzerland and my friend plans on going there next month for another holiday. He had sent his passport to a visa agent to apply and he gave in both his passports but in his form, he filled it out as if he was applying using his South African passport. He wanted the visa on his South African passport because he thought since they had let him into the country before, it is best to apply using that passport.

Will they issue him a visa on that passport?

Pre-November 2008, he used to leave the US on his Zimbabwean passport and arrive in Switzerland on his South African passport (where visa was not needed then) and then he would leave Switzerland on his South African passport and arrive in the US in his Zimbabwean passport.

But he was told recently that if he is going from one country that requires a visa to another country that requires a visa, then he needs to do that on the same passport. Honestly, I don't see why because they can see in Switzerland that he has legal status in the US with his Zimbabwean passport.

(I think he is either Zimbabwean or Zambian).

Well Rupeshhari, he changed passport previously I guess because there was no visa needed for Switzerland that time. Now as you said, Visa is needed then my Personal opinion is, if his visa approved then it will be stamped on his Zimbabwean passport. Because he is in USA using Zimbabwean passport, my personal understanding only, by they way Rupeshhari, If there is visa needed and he already applied for visa, then assume his visa approves, I think there is no issue .. either its on South African or Zimbabwean, because he will have a valid visa, doesn't matter on which passport.

When previously he exit USA using Zimbabwean passport and enter Switzerland using South African passport, he didn't face any inquiry or etc, that where he is coming from ?? Because when he showed his south african passport, by rulings IO should check where he is coming from, Exit stamp etc from final destination.

As addition,

I have nationality of this country where I am living, If I exit using my recent passport and reach to my native country and try to show them my native country passport, I think they won't give me entry without investigation that where I am coming from, where is my papers , exit stamps etc. I guess it would lead to a complicated situation.

I am a dual citizen too and i have traveled on one passport and arrive on another and visa versa and they always checked to see whether i was legal in where i am coming from and where I land but they were okay with it as long as i am legal on one of the two passports. I haven't run into his situation of traveling between two different countries both requiring visas.

Thanks Mahharouf.

Hi Rupesh,

Me too. However, I do think they should give him the Visa on any of the PP, because normally when you apply for the VISA of a country you fill in forms and have to state your status in the country you are applying the visa from and again, some countries do verify including your ticket (return ticket), so that they are sure that you will leave the country after your visa expires.

Having said that, I also tend to share Mahharouf's view and experience.

Anyway, lets wait and see whether your friend get's it or not. Most likely he will. Do you have any other difficult question? :))

I remeber a very weird situation for one guy from saudi arabia, actually i don't know him and haven't seen him but he was posting his news in an arabic forum for saudi students who have scholarship.

As he claimed, he was born in canada, since then his father has left the country and never went back again even his canadian passport wasn't renewed until the age of 25 years old, after that his sister got a scholarship to study in canada and one of the requirements by saudi arabia for women who get scholarship is to have one of their first blood relatives from men to travel with them as an accompany.

Anyway, he applied with his sister to the canadian embassy in riyadh and his sister got her visa and he got refused, the reason was as he stated (there is no reason for you to go to canada), so he asked in the forum for advice and he didn't want to renew his canadian passport to get the advantage of being enroled in the scholarship from his country saudi arabia. and he got an acceptance letter form english school in canada and applied again, then they refused him for the second time with a very serious words (as he said), they wrote in the refusal letter: don't apply again !! then he sent his canadian passport to be renewed. After almost 3 months he got it renewed ( but they told him at first it will take a long time because you haven't renewed your passport since the date of issue and we will send it to the immigration department in canada for the approval and he finally got it !! (canadian applies to get a visa to enter canada and gets refused (big lol)

lol. that is weird. what if they had banned him for some reason....then a canadian would have been banned from getting a visa to canada lol. I am surprised that their system doesn't check for citizenship or prior travel to canada.

They already know that he is a canadian citizen even if he doesn't have a passport because he was born in canada, and he wrote in the application under place of birth : canada, even in his saudi passport it is writen canada as a place of birth, so no way they don't know that he is a canadian citizen because any one gets born on canada will be a canadian by birth, furthermore, as he said, when he got refused the first time, he sent both applications one for student visa with his saudi passport and the other for renewal to his canadian passport in one big envelop (each in a seperate small envelop inside the big envelop).

Maybe they refused his visa becuase he is a citizen of the country (canada) and prefered to enter by a foreign passport (looks like he is ashamed of his canadian citizenship)!
