Hi,

I just signed in the forum, but I have been visiting the site reading through the questions and advice. It has been very useful to me, but I searched the questions on here and couldn't find the closest answer to my problem.

My job title falls exactly on a certain NOC - under Skilled C, however, my job is far more extensive than what was mentioned in the main duties. I think the job title or role is very subjective. It should be exclusively based on the job description and referral provided by the company because for instance, you can be a manager in small company or an admin assistant in a large company. For example, the administrative work and secretary falls under Skilled B, but in our company these roles are paid lower and do menial work like paperwork such as photocopy, typing, filing and documentation. Also in our company they hire undergraduates for that role. I have an equivalent of college degree 3 yrs (wes). I do important progress reports, systems' use, targets, technical knowledge, handles my team, management and customer / clients interaction. Our performance are closely reviewed and need to be certified every year for our position. I think these job titles are a case to case basis. Because in our company if I want a title, the salary will be lesser that's why I stayed on the same job "title". My friends who are on a supervisory role in the same company gets less salary. They took that role mainly to get away from the stress of sales and to get a "title".

Please advise :(

Hi Catpaws14,
Your NOC Code should be selected based on the job functions and responsibilities of the NOC Code. Not based on job title. As you've highlighted, job titles are incredibly subjective and I think IRCC knows this (and why Canada has this NOC Classification system to begin with). Go back to the Classification Guide and choose an NOC Code that matches your functions - don't worry about your title. And if it's really concerning you, you can include a Letter of Explanation (LOE) with your application to provide further clarification for IRCC.

Hi Crescent,

Thanks for the quick response. You have given me an idea to provide an LOE stating my job duties and responsibilities. I will also include training certificate from the company to justify my skills and credential. My initial worry was that the VO might see it as a misrepresentation and I don't want that to happen. Are they lenient towards job title and classification as per NOC if backed by certificates and my manager's referral letter? I'm working under a group that has many products and services. The same title in another department will have the same title no matter what services/product, even when duties are different. Our company is a known supplier in the GCC region of international products and services such as banking, vehicles, merchandise etc. My company issues a general title for each businesses, for example, sales engaged in clothing are the same title in automotive or in insurance. So my only best option to have a detailed job description is to get it from my department besides the HR group. Would this qualify? Thanks again.

Hi Catpaws,
Yes - I wouldn't use the word 'lenient' but they'll be 'understanding' as long as your job duties and responsibilities are clear - you can mention these in your LOE, but, first and foremost, they should be mentioned in the employment reference letter that you upload as proof for that work experience. The title won't be relevant as long as your job duties and responsibilities are clearly outlined.

Hi! Sorry for the delayed reply. I lost interest in EE seeing my scores aren't getting any better lol so I looked for other opportunities available to immigrate in Canada. :)
