Hello everyone,
I am looking for the proper NOC code for the job of data scientist. This topic has been covered before in this (https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/help-plz-data-scientist-noc-code.470148/) thread, but I think that the Canadian Embassy has made some changes since then (the post was in Jan 2017).
Currently, these are the potential NOC codes that I have identified:
If we read up on the "Main Duties" part of these NOCs, none of them come close to what my main duties are. In fact, I would say that my main duties are an amalgamation of these 3 NOCs.
I am biased towards using 2171, because then my entire work experience of almost 5 years will be covered under 1 NOC. My work experience consists of 3 companies:
Any help will be appreciated.
Regards,
MMP
I am looking for the proper NOC code for the job of data scientist. This topic has been covered before in this (https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/help-plz-data-scientist-noc-code.470148/) thread, but I think that the Canadian Embassy has made some changes since then (the post was in Jan 2017).
Currently, these are the potential NOC codes that I have identified:
- 2171 - This is primarily for MIS consultants (like SAP, Oracle ERP etc), but if we click on "View all titles" under this NOC on the NOC website, we also find "Artificial Intelligence Analyst" and "Artificial Intelligence Consultant" among the job titles. (http://noc.esdc.gc.ca/English/noc/ViewAllTitlesQuickSearch.aspx?ver=16&val65=2171&val=2&val1=2171)
- 2172 - This is primarily for database consultants (like DB Admins, Data Warehouse Analysts etc), but if we click on "View all titles", we find the titles "Data Miner", "Data Mining Analyst", and "Data Scientist" among the job titles. I believe these job titles were not available under this NOC earlier (in 2017). (http://noc.esdc.gc.ca/English/noc/ViewAllTitlesQuickSearch.aspx?ver=16&val65=2172&val=2&val1=2172)
- 2161 - This is primarily for statistics-based roles (like actuaries and economists). There is no term called "Data Scientist", "Data Analyst", "Data Miner" etc associated with the NOC however. The closest title I can see is "Applied statistician", which is a small part of my job (I deal with databases a lot more frequently than I spend time applying statistics). (http://noc.esdc.gc.ca/English/noc/ViewAllTitlesQuickSearch.aspx?ver=16&val65=2161&val=2&val1=2161)
- With my first company, I was an MIS consultant and I will be using 2171 as my NOC for that role. I spent 2.5 years in that company, and my job title was Consultant.
- With my 2nd and 3rd company, I took on the role of a data scientist, so I would like to choose an NOC from the 3 NOCs I shortlisted. However, it would be great if I could choose 2171, instead of changing my NOC. I spent 1 year with my 2nd company and 1.5 years with my 3rd (current) company, and my job title was Data Scientist and Software Engineer - Data Science respectively.
- This is primarily from the point of view of FSW calculation. If I choose 2 NOCs, I estimate I will get 68 points. With 1 NOC, I will get 70 points.
Any help will be appreciated.
