Hi Everyone,

New to the forum here. Been lurking for the last several months and have really founds this useful!

I'm still looking to get my 1 year of experience before I can apply for PR under the CEC -- work permit will expire Aug 2013, so feeling lots of pressure now. There will be an opening in my department for an Account Manager position, and I'm hoping that qualifies under NOC 1114. The job title is there, however, the selection of duties is only for *some* of the jobs that fit under this category. I know from several of the other senior members that it's the job description that qualify not the job title. If this makes it any clearer, I work for a major Canadian bank and we deal mostly with institutional clients (portfolio management companies in this case).

What do you suggest in this case, if the sample job descriptions aren't there but the job title is? The education/certification requirements are there (e.g. university degree, CSC, etc.). I'm planning on calling the helpline on Monday morning to confirm. My concern is that if I end up taking this position and apply 1 year later and I get a rejection that it hasn't qualified, then I'm afraid it's bye-bye for me :( (I've been here since 2001 as a student...).

Thanks in advance for your help! :D

Hey guys,

The job posting for Account Manager finally went live, so here are the details. Is somebody able to look at these and possibly help with finding out the NOC code? Account Manager, if its the RBC position Im guessing, then its the equivalent of a Financial Advisor with TD. I think this would qualify because you have assigned client in this case, you should look it up though on the HRSDC job list, I'm not familiar with the retail side categories... all i know is that a lot of FSR's equivalent roles have had trouble with the job requirements, BUT FA equivalent roles have been ok... I personally applied as an Investment Broker, so its just my two cents.. ultimately it will come down to the job duties you perform.

@ iunno

You can request Human Resources and Skills Development Canada to verify your NOC by emailing them your job descriptions at:

< noc-cnp@workingincanada.gc.ca >

Let's say your job description falls between 2 NOCs, then the 51% rule kicks in. You will belong to the group that accounts for >50% of the cumulative duties/ tasks.

Interesting. As a back up, I'm looking for (and have an interview lined up for) an FSR posting. The job description on the TD posting matches up identically with most of the main duties listed on the NOC list. I compared it to other job categories (i.e. 6551 and 1434) and the FSR postings have different and I suppose more responsibilities overall. But knowing that issues arise with FSR postings worries me a bit because I will most likely be applying under the CEC as an FSR if things don't pan out right.

As for the Account Manager role, it doesn't fall under the same roles as the Financial Advisor. I think the job description from the actual job ad I posted below definitely undermines the responsibilities that an AM actually has. It just so happens that I'm applying for this position that my colleague held (he moved up to a higher role in the same department). There's a lot of investigative work (e.g. trading and registered account openings, trade settlement, estate disbursements), and dealing with other financial institutions. There's no selling whatsoever and no technical analysis involved. I have a bad feeling that this won't qualify under Level A or B even though the responsibilities are quite heavy and the pay is quite good (between $40K-60K).

@ amydoan

Thanks for that! I actually called again this morning and after getting bounced around, I was given the very same email address. I emailed them this morning and should have something in 5-10 business days. Sadly, the posting for the AM role expires on Apr 18. I suppose I'll apply anyways.

Thanks for both of your responses!

See if this helps: www.workingincanada.gc.ca/report-eng.do?lang=eng&noc=1114&area=9219&titleKeyword=financial+planner&regionKeyword=Toronto,+Ontario&source=2&action=final

You can use it to search more job titles and main duties/responsibilities.

I met with a RBC Account Manager and topics included assets, liabilities, long term & short term financial goals and implementing plan to achieve them budgeting, financial products & investments, insurance coverage, taxes, etc.

These seem to be most consistent with the duties of a "financial planner" which is NOC 1114 and skilled. If this is what your duties will be as an Account Manager, it seems to me this is the right NOC. However, HRDSC would know best. :D

Thanks for the link, SenoritaBella! I ended up applying for that finance and credit administrator role under NOC 1114. Deadline is tomorrow, so fingers crossed!

I'm still waiting on a response from HRSDC regarding the Account Manager role I want to apply to. Unfortunately, none of the job descriptions match up with what's currently under NOC 1114, so it doesn't look good.

I had an interview for an FSR role at a branch and I have a rather positive feeling about it. I know the NOC list was updated a couple of months ago, and the FSR role now falls under NOC 6235 (skill level B).

Has anyone had an issue with applying as an FSR at this point? It's probably still too early to tell...
