NOC 0213 question

Hello
am an IT specialist for last 7 years. My current job is related to the NOC 0213, which is Computer and Information Systems Managers.
however, I've never had a "Manager" title, but my current position has lots of managements tasks to do, such as plan, meet with clients, work on managements plans, supervise programmers and analysts, travel a lot.
My question is : will a letter from my employer gonna be enough to prove my management skills? I've applied after feb 27.

The keywork in NOC 0213 is Manager. You have to read carefully the description of that NOC (the lead description, those first few lines in the NOC; and the list of duties). If you believe you fit that description, then go ahead and apply. However, CIC will ask for a copy of your contract, and if your contract doesn't specify a management position, you may find yourself in trouble.

I doubt that CIC will be satisfied with a letter alone. In addition, once they see your paycheck, they'll figure out you're not being paid manager wage. And if you ask, "but can they do that?", the answer is yes. The CIC manual suggests that the immigration officer should cross-check all information available to find inconsistencies. If you claim to be a manager but you're paid minimum wage, you're probably not telling the whole truth (although not necessarily lying).

In the end, it's really up to you. If you apply, all you're risking is losing the application fee. If you don't apply, you don't risk anything, but then you can't go to Canada either.

Hi,

After reading some of the information on the CIC site, it seems they do evaluate cases based on the work experience and education and it is down to the person evaluating the application to decide whether your skills match. I have applied under NOC 2174 however my experience, as yours are, are vast. I am currently a Technical Architect and the role includes most activities generally associated to a manager.

I have emailed the London office to hopefully highlight this and have my application based on my actual experience rather than the specific noc applied under at the time.

Thank you, all, for your valuable feedback. My case is slightly different. I'm an IT Supervisor for a Systems and Technology corporation in the U.S. My job description and main duties match NOC 0213, but my employer's letter of employment states 'Supervisor' as my title. In addition, my paycheck and annual performance reviews clearly show what I believe to be managerial level decision making and compensation. I believe the only factor that could come into question would be my title. I've looked to see if there's an NOC code for "Computer and Information Systems Supervisors", but I can't find one listed. This title is only listed in the "Classified elsewhere" section under NOC 0213, but there is no '4-digit' code for it. Does anyone know where you could find the lead description and list of duties for CIS Supervisors?

I got 16 years education with university Degree is Electrical/Telecom Engineering, while my current occumation since last 2 years is Senior Manager Broadband & IP services development which resembles with NOC 0213. previously job occupation also resembles as i use to Manage & Monitor Network Operation Centres of Alcatel for last 10 year, including O&M of power plants.
What do you think should i apply on work experience of NOC 0213

Without the titile written as manager in your experience letter,payslips, performance papers, you application will be returned for sure. This is for all, and CIC officers will now cross check peoples' Degrees with their occupation. Example, if they studied in Electrical Engineering, but worked for Information systems manager, this will shed a doubt and most likely their apps will be returned back. Come on guys, they have reduced the number to 38 , not for showing mercy for you who do not fall into the 38 list. may be better luck next time when the recession gets over.

Not necessarily true. One does not have to have a degree in similar field to work in that field. I have a degree in pharmacology (think pharmacy/medicine) but I have been a system/network administrator for more than 12 years. And I have been performing just fine. Experience is what count.

My NOC is also NOC 0213, which is Computer and Information Systems Managers.

I am the owner and the general manager of a small IT company with 4 employers. We offer IT services and products, programming, web design, networking etc to other companies and individuals.
I manage the people and the systems in my company and I want to know your opinon If I am ok with this code. My duties are olmost as described to the NOC book.
