Hey guys,

Need your help. I have an issue. I am an international student from India doing my graduate studies in USA. I am planning to apply for an online TRV to Canada to attend a conference. My passport from India doesn't have a surname. So I am confused on how to fill the required forms. The FAQ in the Canadian immigration website clearly states the rules for 'Application for Temporary Resident Visa (IMM 5257)' in such cases. It says that, "If you do not have a family name on your passport, travel or identity document, enter all your given name(s) here and leave the given name field blank". I did as it says and the form gets validated properly and the bar code page is generated.

The issue now pops up when I am trying to fill the form 'Schedule 1 – Application for Temporary Resident Visa (IMM5257 – Schedule 1)'. When I am doing the same thing here, it doesn't validate and gives an error saying that the given name filed is blank. The FAQ doesn't say anything about what to do in such cases for this particular form.

Please help me if any of you have faced this problem before or know what to do in such cases.

Your help will be really appreciated.

Thanks PMM for your reply. But if I got it correct, you are saying to put the given name field blank right? But in that case the form will not get validated and is giving an error saying given name field cannot be left blank. Also on the top right corner it shows not validated. I am worried about it.

Please clarify.

Put None in the given name box and your given names in the surname box

You should use LNU in the Surname field. This is universally used for such cases - Last Name Unassigned. I have used it for one of my family member previously and for booking airline tickets too.

Thanks gg08 for your reply. But the thing is the help file for 'Application for Temporary Resident Visa (IMM 5257)' says that, "If you do not have a family name on your passport, travel or identity document, enter all your given name(s) here and leave the given name field blank". So I guess we need to follow same method in Schedule I form too right? So writing LNU may create confusion. But schedule I needs something to be entered in 'given name' field. Else it will not validate. So whatever I enter there will make my names different in both forms since the Application for TRV clearly states what to do in such cases.

Quit playing around, enter None and it will validate.
