I am filling my EE application using GCKey but there is no Application number in the grid. Is that an issue or normal?

It is normal.
You are creating a 'Profile', not submitting an application yet.
You will have a 'Profile Number' once you complete creating the profile.
Once you get an ITA and submit the application subsequently, you will get an application number.
