Greeting

I am a Nigeria citizen that is living in canada, recently my work permit and passport expired. I got an update from the Nigeria High commission stating that:

NIGERIAN CITIZENS WHOSE STUDY OR WORK PERMITS HAVE EXPIRED SINCE MARCH 2020 AND WHO DO NOT HAVE A VALID PASSPORT HAVE A GRACE PERIOD THAT LASTS UNTIL DECEMBER 31ST 2020. BY THIS TIME WE EXPECT TO HAVE RESOLVED SOME OF THE CHALLENGING ISSUES THAT COVID-19 HAS CREATED.

I also learned that there is a new temporary public policy that will allow visitors to apply for a work permit without having to leave canada.
I applied for a visitors visa before my work permit expired so i am on implied status, but i dont think i will get the permit until i get a new passport.

I cant figure out if the statement by Nigeria embassy gives me a pass to continue working or not. I sent an email to them yesterday but i havent got a response yet, would anybody have a clue on what this means.

okay thanks
At the moment you have no right to work in Canada. You eould have needed to have an employer with an approved LMIA (except for certain rare professions) and have applied for a new WP. You switched your status to visitor so you can remain in Canad as a visitor at the moment. You must try to renew your Nigerian passport. If you need an employer to have an LMIA that should be your other priority.
