Hi, I am 38 years old and I am currently applying for a student visa to Canada. I am married with two kids and have about 7 to 8 years work experience. I am concerned about the Gap years affecting my visa approval chances as I got my last qualification as far back as 2008, Bsc in Political science. What are my chances please?

Study gap in a way comes to play when the applicant fails to justify ans convincingly explain to the VO why wanting to return to school at this stage and what engagements has the applicant been engaged in during this period. If the applicant can convincingly explain the study gap maybe in terms of work experience/history, voluntary services, academic activities, seminars etc. This would enable the VO have a clear view of why you're zealous to developed yourself academically whether for promotion or better opportunity.

So, study gap isn't much of a huge problem if properly dealt with, as previous applicants has been successful having long study gap. It won't be a problem if properly addressed.

Ok thanks a lot for this feedback. I guess this gives a lot of comfort. So it all boils down to explanation given for the long gap. In my case I have started working since I graduated and I am currently working with a financial institution. So my excuse could be the need to work to support my family and now I need to upgrade to advance my career. Do you by any chance have more suggestions. Also please advise if the study visa also covers my wife and kids( 2 toddlers). Thanks again for taking out time to help.

Of course, your work experience or years of work covers the study gap, and its even more easier to convince the VO if your work experiences is related to your prospect course.

As a married applicant, if you feel the need to move with your family and you're sure of having sufficient funds to cater for them and can meet other requirement like showing tangible home ties, you can apply for a SOWP for your spouse which permits working and Visit visa for your kids. This will be enabled through a valid study permit.

Sorry to hear about the delay in getting a decision. As it stands, your best option is to defer your admission to the next possible intake while updating your prospect school on the situation at hand.

If you've not send IRCC emails and Webforms, start sending them immediately as a warm reminder, and endeavour to include your full name as shown on your passport, Passport number, DoB, CoR.

I think this delay is general.

The delay is general, especially third world countries. My response to the other moniker above is applicable to your situation too
