Nexus Cardholder enter Canada from USA by land; possible with expired PR card?

Dear forum members,

My nexus card is valid till 2023 but my PR card expires in Sep 2021. I am currently working in USA on H1B visa so I have a risk of losing PR due to not meeting RO. I wonder is it possible that a Nexus Cardholder enter Canada from USA by land with expired PR card and not getting reported for not meeting RO? Does anyone know any such examples?

There is ALWAYS the possibility of being intercepted at the border and having your residency examined.

Having a Nexus card doesn't guarantee you won't be closely examined. Every so often they will randomly pull you for inspection. I'm on my second Nexus card - my husband is just about to get his third. Both of us are pulled from time to time for closer inspection. We've also experienced situations where the Nexus machines were down for some reason and we've had to pass through the regular immigration line. You can't bank on the Nexus card to save you. So the short answer is yes - even with a Nexus card, there's still a chance you will be reported.

I have a related question. I have been a PR for only 6 months (so technically I have 2.5 years more to live outside Canada and still satisfy RO). I have my Nexus interview this week and I'm worried CBSA will ask me why I haven't moved there yet. I do have valid reason that I'm still looking for a job and that weather is not favorable to move yet. I'm wondering if anyone else had similar experiences. I am interviewing at a land border enrollment center in Montana.

Very few officers ask why you have not moved to Canada. Just explain your situation and tell that when you planned to move (, just have/create a plan to tell during this question to CBSA ). You should be fine. They dont have authority more than just asking "why" as they cant touch the PR status since you are meeting RO.

During my interview, one small office housed both cbsa and cbp officers hence if thats the case then they dont usually ask residency questions.
