Hello,
I would like to hear advices what to do. I sent an In-Canada application to prolong my work permit mid-July and after the expected 50 days waiting time long passed by, I phoned and e-mailed the CIC. The response I received was that my work permit has been approved, but due to technical problems, they are unable to produce a secure work permit at the moment and will mail the document as soon as the issue will have been resolved.
The thing is, I'm hoping to be able to go to the US for a family event this weekend. If I leave Canada without a valid permit in hand, yet the new permit has been approved (in the e-mail, they even gave me the permit number and expiration date), will I encounter any issue re-entering Canada a few days after my departure? I'm just someone who doesn't like taking that kind of risk especially considering I currently work and will be renting a car in Quebec to do the travel. According to the CIC website, three things could happen to me: 1) May be let in Canada as visitor, but might be expected to prove that I have enough fund; 2) May be let in Canada as worker as the border agent sees that the CIC has made a positive decision while I was away; 3) May be asked to apply for a work permit. I see I would be case #2 and I would be let back in without any issue (apart from some extra questions, I guess). But again, I'm prepared to cancel my plan just to be safe. Is there anything I should bring with me in case I have to satisfy the border agent that I can return to Canada as worker?
Oh, I'm US citizen who lives and work in Montreal and will very soon apply for PR as Quebec skilled worker (I already have a CSQ in hand).
What do you think? Thank you in advance. I'll deeply appreciate hearing your views.
