To be clear, see the "news release" posted today by CIC titled "Protecting Canadians".

Thus, this means that the Governor in Council has in fact issued an Order fixing May 29, 2015 as the date section 8 in the SCCA comes into force.

But there is NO NOTICE of this yet issued in the Gazette, the Parliament site, or the Privy Council Orders in Council database . . . we should see the Order itself at these sites within the next few days.

As noted in the topic about the effective date of the SCCA generally, this could indicate the revised requirements for grant citizenship could come into effect any day now.

How did you get that from the attached link?!?! I can't see anything there about Governor in Council fixing any date.

The CIC news release states that these provisions in the SCCA are now in force.

The relevant provision in the SCCA is section 8, which prescribes the replacement of section 10 in the Citizenship Act. Section 8 in the SCCA is subject to section 46(2) in the SCCA, which prescribes that those provisions will come into force on a date to be Ordered by the Governor in Council.

Deductively, then, obviously, since the provisions are in force as of May 29, 2015 (assuming the CIC news release is accurate), the Governor in Council must have issued the Order fixing May 29, 2015 as the date these provisions come into force. Otherwise these provisions could not legally come into force.

I assume we will see the Parliamentary Business web page for Bill C-24 updated soon, likewise the Privy Council database of Orders, to reflect the Governor in Council's Order. I assume publication in the Gazette should take place Wednesday, if not sooner. But I would note that when the Governor in Council made the Order fixing August 1st as the date the provisions governing the new decision-making procedures came into force, the Gazette did not publish that Order until August 13, nearly two weeks later.

Note: yes, it is disconcerting that this government does this sort of thing and publishes the Order later.

It is possible the revised requirements for naturalization will similarly be implemented before the formal Order itself is publicized.

For those with the vote, there is an election coming soon. The manner of governing, not just the policies themselves, should be taken into consideration by voters.
