Well done, goverment ! The fraudsters should get strict warnings that they cant get away for life even if they are deemed a citizen when the route taken to achieve it is uncalled for. Pity that deserving people have their dreams thwarted due to such cons.

The government intends to increase this sort of activity.

It is easy really, the message is ... follow the rules or you will be leaving Canada.

Good activity. I just hope innocent people are not affected.

I think its an excellent idea and I think they should make arrangements to deport them between 24 to 48 hours before they could actually contact lawyers and try to extend their stay on humanitarian grounds and provide 1000 excuses, I dont think any innocent people will fall for this trap. I am sure people who cheated the immigration system know very well what they were doing and what it took to cut corners. There should be zero tolerance for them and costing lots of tax payers dollars.

Then its just publicity stunt, in which case Immigration is wasting their time, energy and tax payers money to go after these people.

In political terms - "a diversionary tactic" :)

Its just the Conservative government playing to their anti-immigrant base. And people on this forum support this? I just hope that--as others have said--no people who lawfully obtained their citizenship are caught up in this. Of course, if the government declares you a fraudster, I suppose the burden then falls on you to prove otherwise. Can you imagine trying to fight this from thousands of miles away? Got no money for a lawyer? Too bad for you--even if you obtained your citizenship perfectly legally.

Now, with the new border agreement, they will be tracking your comings and goings and sharing that info with the Americans. How many of you are on board with that?

Legal immigrants are usually the most fervent defenders of "the rules", because they followed them when they applied.

The new border agreement is just the start of our problems - did you know that in the USA they can now detain a US citizen indefinitely, they do not have to notify anyone, not even a lawyer?

Suspicion can be raised if someone has more than seven days food stored in their house (really, I didn't believe it either). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6ThanSzG_w
Americans appear to have lost the plot...
more than seven days food in the house, can mean you could be considered a potential terrorist

This can be a reason for unlimited detention!!!
Not constitutional, but it is now in place.
They are totally paranoid and driven by fear - something that the USA will be exporting to Canada.

They may be trying to import their craziness to Canada but I don't think they will succeed.

As for the exit and entry checks, I don't see a problem with it. It only hurts those who are trying to cheat on the residency requirements either for PR or citizenship and it also helps people who are in Canada but haven't left much of a foot print, for example living at relatives and living off their savings as opposed to working. People like that have had their PR card renewals or citizenship applications go to residency questionnaires and get delayed because they couldn't prove they had been in Canada when they really were.

Let's hope they don't import that stuff :)

Entry and exit logging is fine by me for the reasons you explained.
I would suggest that there needs to be oversight of what actual information is exchanged.
