Hi all,

Is there a general consensus on this board for the length of time it's taken to get migration approval as a skilled migrant.

Also, could someone please give me an idea of how eligible we would be:

- I'm 38, have been working at the executive and management level in the Information Systems area for 8 years. I have an undergraduate degree and a graduate diploma.
- My wife is 34, has a Masters of Social Work, and has been a Social Worker for 8 years.

Do you think we're ok candidates for the skilled migrant route, or should be look at other options?

Thanks,

Jamie

You're not eligible to apply through the Federal Skilled Worker program at this time. This program is only accepting applicants who either have job offers in Canada or are enrolled in a PhD program. See:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

The program is supposed to re-open to applicants without job offers early next year. However it's impossible to say if you will qualify since no one knows for certain what the requirements will be.

You should take a look at the provincial nominee programs to see if one of those might be a fit for you. Note that a job in Canada is required for a number of these as well. More info here:

Oh and the link for processing times is below. How long it takes depends on where you're from and which program:
