Hello Guys,
A newbie question here: I'm planning to apply for EE. For my working experiences: I have around 7.5 years as "software developer', 1 year as "analyst" , and my current title is "software development engineer" .

I haven't filled in any online profile yet, but I heard you need to choose an NOC code for your working experience. In my situation, should I choose multiple NOC codes for each of my title OR should I choose only one ? If have to only choose one , can my working experiences accumulated ?

Personally I see little to non differences between "software developer" and "software engineer" .

Thanks in advance for the help !

Hello Guys,
A newbie question here: I'm planning to apply for EE.

You have to choose 1 NOC per title. Over and above that you must choose 1 NOC which best represents you overall and a.) You must have spent at least 1 year on a job that matches the selected NOC and b.) Your points for the EE pool as well as the program of immigration will be calculated on the TOTAL number of full time working years irrespective of that NOC.

For example, if you have 7.5 years with a title "Software Developer" and the duties that your manager/HR is willing to write on your letter at least are in line with the NOC for a software developer, AND you have 0.5 years as a Software Development Manager, you would want to choose Software Developer NOC as your primary NOC since that is the one that matches the 1 year requirement.

But, as I said before, an NOC MUST be mentioned for EACH job title, and the duties associated with each title (in the letter from your manager or HR) MUST align to the NOC duties mentioned by CIC.

If have to only choose one , can my working experiences accumulated ? I believe this is also answered above

Personally I see little to non differences between "software developer" and "software engineer" . NOCs typically have a list which show what are the different titles associated/commonly seen with candidates. You may use that as a reference to cross check that your title is in that list.

Thanks in advance for the help !

Hi Systix,
Thanks a lot for your prompt response ! It's good to know the points will be based on the total years of experiences regardless of the title .

One additional question here: It is OK to NOT getting the reference letter from current employer ? ( My previous experiences should get me enough points already). I think many other people might have the same thoughts as mine: I just don't want my current employer to know my intention of immigrating to another country.

Thanks again !

I think there may have been others .. I personally would do this: ask for a generic letter of experience and state that you are trying to explore higher education options and need this.

As such, the only thing that I would avoid doing is saying different things at different times. Because when you fill out the forms first and become part of the pool there are only minor details asked. Once you qualify from the pool with the required number of points which is above cutoff a much more detailed application needs to be filled out. Thus just a word of caution.

Highly encourage you to please search the forums and see if anyone else has done this. I am pretty sure you are bound to run into someone.
