Good afternoon/ evening? everyone.

My name is Louis and I have recently submitted my online CIC application.

I have a friend of mine that owns a business in Grande Prairie who has offered a nice, labor intensive well paying job. He is willing to work with me in whatever way it takes to get me up there and on the payroll. He furnished me with everything that I asked for (for CIC online app) and said that he has hired only one foreigner (Colombian?) in the past and didn't need to do anything for him at all? Said he just showed up and started work.

I wasn't 100% sure on all of the LMO stuff, as he has obviously not applied for it yet but said that he advertises constantly for open positions. Said that labor turnover in his area is huge, and finding good guys is nearly impossible. Said he could hire 20 guys on the spot right now.

Moving forward, with my online application will they refuse my approval because of the lack of an LMO? The work needed isn't skilled for the entry level positions, but inside a year it becomes manager/ supervisor work which can qualify for a skilled position and hopefully my resident status by the time my 4 years are up.

Am I missing huge things here? Is there other documents, things I need to get in order or submitted to keep the chances of my approval?

26 years old
Associates Degree in Business Administration
Private Pilot
Full time job since age 18
Mechanic background with work experience - ties loosely into Canadian Job
No red flags that I can think of, No tickets, arrests, U.S. Visa since age 6-7 with multiple travel visa's.

My fathers family immigrated to the U.S. from Canada just before he was born. My aunts and uncles grandfather and grandmother all had to immigrate to the U.S. from the Winnipeg area. Will they look into my background at all and find this?

What are the approval ratios for work permits in Canada?

Any Idea's on online Application Times? CIC only shows "online" times for submitted "within Canada" which looks like 2 weeks, but Los Angeles shows a 3-4 month wait which I am assuming is for written and submitted by mail/ in person applications. Am I wrong at assuming this? Just trying to plan for the next steps with an approval.

If I get the work visa approved, this job is permanent. What are the next steps there? Work for 2 years then start the resident application process? I am truly green here.

Sorry so many questions, just figured this might be a place to start looking for answers! Thanks in advance

You need an approved LMO for the work permit to be approved. So you should unfortunately be expecting a refusal.

However I think the bigger question is whether you may have some claim to Canadian citizenship. Without knowing more dates and facts, it's difficult for any of us to say for sure. I would recommend that you take the following online test to see if you may be a citizen by descent. The fact your father's family immigrated to the US before he was born likely means he is a Canadian citizen and you are not. However there's a chance you may be as well and I think it's worth your while to look into this and see.

That is what I was fearing.

My grandparents moved to the U.S. in 1961 as my grandmother was about to pop with my Dad. My Father was born in a California hospital, and to my knowledge never returned to Canada once.

I will look at that link and see if that gets me anywhere. Thank you!
