New SIN after landing, will it be connected to old SIN starting with "9"?

Hello everyone, I have a question here about my new SIN number after landing and my previous one which begins with "9" when I have work permit.

I filed tax for 2 years with my old SIN. I am applying for First Home Buyer Plan to exempt the property transfer tax as I am eligible. As I am about to apply this tax exempt with my NEW SIN, I am concerned whether my old SIN is connected with my New one? As there is one requirement for the exemption, the person should file tax for two years within the past six years. As I did not fie any tax with my new SIN, I am worried they cannot recognise my tax history.

Thanks for reading my question.

I just went through a similar situation. your new SIN will get linked to your old one in about a month's time. You must call CRA to verify if they have been synced. Until they are linked together, you should continue using your old SIN. Once they are linked, all your old tax information in your '9' SIN will be transferred over to your new SIN file, then you can use the new SIN.

No, you can't use your old SIN anymore as soon as you got new. I called CRA to clarify this question, and they said that I should never use old SIN number, since it's not valid anymore.

Thanks so much!

I just called CRA twice to confirm that both numbers are connected and I could use my new one right away!

It helps a lot! Relieve my worries.

So after getting pr, PGWP holders need to go to service canada again to get a new sin?
