Current regulations

Applicants may apply for a study permit to pursue studies at any educational institution in Canada.

New regulations, as of June 1, 2014

Study permits will only be issued to successful applicants who are pursuing studies at an educational institution that has been designated to receive international students.

I didn't understand these rules please elaborate these if any one understands them.

Hello experts,

i've got one query regarding the new visa changes. i am new to Canada visa rules and norm. So i need your help.

Currently i for accepted to the Queen's University Full time MBA program starting from Jan 2015. While going thru the new visa norms i came across trhe below point and was unable to understand.

"A study permit becomes invalid 90 days following the completion of studies unless the foreign national also possesses a valid work permit or another authorization to remain in Canada. "

My interpretation to the above point is as follows:

1. Post my MBA i need to secure a job within the 3 months after graduation else i would not be allowed to stay further. Could someone please clarify this?

Question 2: As i will be taking bank loans for my studies, i need to work in Canada for a couple of year for the repayment. SO in that case, will i be able to apply for a work permit even if i do not have an job offer?

THank you for your help.

1- No, it means after completing your studies, you'll have 90 days to either apply for a work permit if you want to stay in Canada or go back home.
2- Yes, you can apply for a post-graduation work permit which is an open work permit that doesn't need any job offer or whatsoever.

Thank you Neez. One more query.

1. As my study duration will be 1 year, then i would be granted a work permit of 1 year post my studies. Will i be able to extend my workpermit going further?

Appreciate your help..

No, a post-graduation work permit is a once-in-life thing. Once it expires, You can't renew it, and even if you decided to study something else after the work permit expires, you won't be able to get another one when you finish your studies.
