New PR Law regarding spousal sponsorship coming into effect soon?

One of my friends works in immigration in the BC government. I told her I was planning to start an inland application when my fiance comes up here on a travel visa after we get married. She said that I should hold off for 2-3 months as the new law regarding spousal sponsorship is going to change. She said it was for sure happening and it spousal sponsorship will grant immediate PR - however she said it wasn't clear what happens to those already in the program. I can't find any info on it, does anybody here know anything? I know it was a promise of the liberal platform - but I'm worried about any possible delays with implementing the new program.

I always thought by immediate PR they just meant there would be no conditional PR....

You can google "Trudeaumetre" and check the immigration tab.

It's definitely immediate PR
It's removal of Condition 51 only. Nothing else. You will still have the very long inland processing time.

No it isn't. As mentioned, it's simply removal of condition 51/conditional PR which is irrelevant to vast majority of applicants.

I'm surprised even immigration employees don't even seem to understand this.

Agreed. It's just the removal of Condition 51.

As others have noted, it just means no condition on the PR. It is not only worrisome that immigration workers don't understand what is going on in many cases, I find it extremely so that the Minister dealing with immigration doesn't seem to.

It definitely does not mean that as soon as a spouse or partner of a Canadian applies, they will be granted a PR visa and can come here right away.
