New Passport

Hi

I am a Canadian citizen applying to sponsor my husband under the Family Class Spousal Sponsorship and living outside of Canada. I have filled out all of the forms and supporting documents with my old passport number (as of March 2018) but had to renew my passport as it would expire in August 2018 and I needed to extend my working visa outside of Canada before the expiry of my passport. So I renewed my passport, and received it sooner than expected (April 2018).

Having filled out all of the supporting documents (notarized letters etc) with my old passport number - will this cause a major issue with my application? Or would it suffice to send along my old and new passport photocopies with an explanation as to why the passport numbers are different (old and new)?

Advice would be much appreciated.

Visa cannot be issued to a Canadian Citizen.......I guess as the Sponsor you only included your Canadian Passport (page showing passport number, etc) as SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS FOR SPONSOR to indicate their Status in Canada.

As of March 2018 when the application was submitted the passport has not expired, and will still proof that your are a Canadian Citizen.

Don't think renewing your Canadian Passport will have any effect on your sponsorship.

However, if you care, will suggest you send a scanned copy of the data page for your new and old passport to IRCC with a Note explaining why you renewed your passport.

Since you only submitted your application in March 2018, i guess its still been processed at IRCC Mississauga.

@Wakki, thanks for taking time to reply.

I have not yet send the application. I am planning to send the application soon. I have filled out all the forms and have collected all the supporting documents. But some of the supporting documents have my old passport number on them.

Should I change my new passport number on those documents? Or would there be no problem if I send the documents as it's with the old passport number?

Your old passport will expire in Aug 2018 and is still valid to indicate your Status in Canada.

Not sure which of the sponsorship forms require the Sponsor's passport number............and if you are using your Canadian passport only as a supporting document.......that's okay.

So you could send your application, its not a problem.
