New passport valid the day before travel, can I still apply for an ETA?

Hi,

I'm getting married in August and will be flying to Vancouver the next day for the honeymoon (From the UK, we're both British Citizens). We have already booked the tickets (there was no information available about ETA when we booked), and have booked my fiancee's ticket in her new married name, as we can apply for a passport in your married name up to three months in advance of the wedding in the UK.

The passport will be post dated for wedding day, when she will change her name, and therefore valid from 13th August.

I don't want to risk waiting until the new passport is valid in order to apply for the ETA in case there is a problem.

Can we apply for an ETA based on a passport that is not yet valid?

Many Thanks

Hi,

As ETA is a brand new process, you may not find information about using post-dated passports on this forum.

Your post-dated passport will be valid from the date you get married. This means, for example, ESTA will not let you to apply until the date your post-dated passport becomes valid. It could probably be the same with Canada's ETA.

You may want to check with the Canadian High Commission in London, UK: ldn@international.gc.ca

Cheers

Thanks for the reply, I tried that email address already and received an auto response saying they won't respond to questions about visas.
