I have a question regarding to the changes to come on immigration law. My file was received by the Buffalo office in January 2nd 2008, but I only received my AOR on March 10th 2008.

Am I going to be under the current law or the new one to come?

I do not understand when they say “Those who applied before February 27, 2008, will not be subject to the new proposed provisions in the legislation.”

Does it means, received AOR before February 27, 2008 or those who sent the application before February 27, 2008?

Here is what the CIC website says:

Q7. What happens to someone who has already applied to immigrate to Canada? How will the new amendments affect them?

Those who applied before February 27, 2008, will not be subject to the new proposed provisions in the legislation. These provisions, once passed, will apply to applications received on or after February 27, 2008.

Thank you.

Thank you.

What part of "will apply to applications received on or after February 27, 2008. " don't you understand?

I actually read that some older applications may be affected by the new immigration act, i.e. even if you applied a year ago, - there's still a chance that your application would either be expedited or put off till later on... I guess it's a "Russian Roulette".

philster,
Thanks for your input.

PMM,
I have respect for everybody in this forum and don’t appreciate your sarcasm. I really was unsure, that’s why I asked the question. Going forward, if you feel that a question is not worth answering, please feel free to refrain.

PMM is 100% right. People should ask only questions, not answers. By posting silly questions you are wasting everybody’s time. And PMM is the most valuable member in this Forum, spending hours providing people with exceptionally valuable answers FOR FREE!!! If one does not appreciate “sarcasm” for free, should seek a paid advice from a lawyer.
Nothing personal!

PaulIII,

I DID NOT ASK PMM TO ANSWER MY QUESTION AND NEITHER I ASKED YOUR OPINION. YOU GUYS NEED TO BE MORE RESPECTFUL TO OTHERS. IF YOU THINK IT IS A STUPID QUESTION DON'T BOTHER ANSWERING IT.

Traveler74,
Just to clarify, your AOR letter should have a red date stamp, that's the date when you application was filed. Just see whether the date is earlier or past the 27th of Feb. Good luck

philster,

Awesome! I didn't even notice that. I will check it today. Thanks again.

Hi Traveler74

You can also verify the timestamp specific to your file number by checking the status of your application online.

ManiB,

I could not find the red stamp on my AOR as metioned per philster above. I tried to check the status online but I guess they won't have anything there until they do the IA on my application, they mentioned that on my AOR letter. But anyways, thanks for you input.
