New here - What items are considered a "positive" when applying for a Visa

Background: I am a US citizen, living and working in Singapore. I took Girlfriend 2012 to California on a K1 (USA fiance visa), and upgraded her to Wife 2014. We did not stay in the USA. She is from Myanmar and also working in Singapore. It was hard to get a tourist visa for a honeymoon in the USA, so we decided to marry there because it is easy to get a K1. We have no plans to live in the USA anytime soon. She does NOT have a USA green card, and is not eligible for one do to insufficient residency.

We want to visit Vancouver next summer (two weeks). What will work for us?
1. Her sister is a resident in Vancouver. Her hubby is a Canada citizen.
2. I am a USC, and will travel with her. I require no visa.
3. We earn over $100,000 (CAN) a year.
4. We have worldwide health insurance (AIA).
5. She has obtained a visa to the USA in the past (K1 as stated above).
6. She has a child from a previous marriage, but he does not live with us, and will not accompany on the first trip.

This is not good, as this could be a tie.

Unless she is your dependant, your added income is of little use. The TRV is for her not for "both" so she is the one who has to show she has a good income.

Good.

6. She has a child from a previous marriage, but he does not live with us, and will not accompany on the first trip.

I think you should have no trouble submitting a TRV application, do it carefully and explain anything you think is worth explaining (like her kid). Remember... it is SHE the one who has to prove everything. No "US", no "we" in this application as a main argument, it is ok to use that sort of arguments as proof of a relationship, but not because "we both earn" that means "she earns".

Strong points are your K1 and income.

I see my job and the fact that my job provides the health insurance as a pretty strong tie to Singapore. I thought we would point out to the consular that her son currently lives only two hours away by plane, and are not terribly expensive, so visits are very regular. That is a very good reason to live, and work in Singapore.

She makes 27K Canadian.

Her sister is writing an invitation letter. I will work out an itinerary with my brother in law. I just hope they do not ask that we buy the airline tickets before we go to the interview.

I hope they can approve this. I would like it if the three of us could visit in 2016.
