Hi,

Quick question. Would there be any impact on the PR status for me and my spouse if we have a baby once we receive the Canada PR? If yes, would this nullify the already obtained PR or would it just involve some additional documentation?

Also, would the process be any different if we relocate to Canada and then have the baby?

Would largely appreciate a detailed response for both probable scenarios please

If you have the baby outside of Canada before landing as PRs, you will need to add him/her to the app.

If you have the baby outside of Canada after landing as PRs, you will need to sponsor the baby. This requires the sponsor to be residing in Canada throughout the process, so if the child is unable to come to Canada, expect up to a year of separation.

If you land as PRs and have the baby in Canada, s/he will be a Canadian citizen.

To add that the OP if they decide to have the baby in Canada after landing as PRs they should ensure the timing is right given any possible waiting time to join a provincial health scheme else they could be faced with the delivery costs.
