My Husband and I both have Canadian PR however for certain reasons I gave birth to my child in my home country. We submitted his sonsorship papers in April when he was 2 months old. His documents were transferred to our local visa office on June 2( medical checkup done). Till today no updates on his file. Anyone who submited a new born sponsorship application could share their timeline?

Are you in Canada? One of you must be in. Canada to sponsor your child. Sponsorship takes 5-10 months but if you are both out of Canada it will be refused.

Yes my husband is in Canada and he is the sponsor. But wondering if this 5-10 months applies to a new born sice technically speaking there is nothing about him to be reviewed.

Doesn’t matter if the child is a minor. Don’t think they care about that. As at when I submitted my sons application he was just a month plus. Now he’s almost 10months and we are still stuck with the application. He has done medicals and all. ADditional documents we submitted since April 23rd hasn’t been reviewed till now. So I just feel they don’t care

hi i am applying for my newborn son's PR sponsorship this month My wife is also PR but delivered baby in India. i have few questions appreciate your guidance in this.
1.can my wife who is a PR be added as a co-signer even if she is temporarily living in india after delivery with baby?
2. who should sign the forms for the applicant (for baby) is it me or my wife ?
3. If my wife cannot be added a cosigner should we submit the IMM5604 (Declaration from Non-Accompanying parent or guardian for minors immigrating to canada) even if she will be accompanying the baby when he lands.
4.Should i submit a Use of Representative form(IMM5476) for my minor child to use me as a representative?

thank for your reply @canuck78 appreciate it. I have another question. Unfortunately i dont have any pictures of me and my newborn together so far and i am in canada now. I have his birth certificate, passport which has my name as father. Is there anyother docs i can submit as additional proof of relationship if not photos?

No need to have pictures. A birth certificate with your name on it is enough as long as it matches your name on your passport.

HI @Light89 thanks for your reply....as your situation coincides with my case like to know what docs you submitted particularly for sponsor (father)- child relationship and in this case did you cosign the sponsor application imm1344 if you did not co-sign did you submit the IMM5604 (Declaration from Non-Accompanying parent or guardian for minors immigrating to canada). My wife is a PR but she is living in india with baby after delivery. There is mention of Section 8 in supporting docs for Additional proof of Relationship this is what i am concerned about. We have only passport and birth certificate. Did you submit any other government/official docs for this , can LIC policy document be sufficient for this?

Hello Rvche,

Since i did not reside in Canada when we submitted the sponsorship apllication, i did not cosign. And because i will be traveling to Canada with my son when he gets his PR visa then i didnt sign the declaration IMM5604. As proof of relationship, we submitted his birth certificate, passport, and in our country we have something called Family Judicial record its a paper identifying each member of the family (Father, mother, and children). But i dont think u have this in your country. So his birth certificate, and passport is enough if both the parents names are shown on them.

One more advise is to be prepared that it will take a long time for the application to be processed. My son was born in March 2019 and we submited the application on April 2019 ( just one month old baby) and last update was on June 2019. Since then we are waiting with no updates. Its surprising how long they take to process an application for a new born child with both parents already having a PR less than one year ago.
