I have been getting ready to apply for my PR through spousal sponsorship for the past few months. I am a French citizen who has been living in Canada for 3.5 years, and been in a common-law relationship for 3 years with my sponsor, who is a Canadian citizen. I was planning to apply outland because processing times with the Paris office were only 9 months, and because my work permit is valid until late November 2017, it should work. I was planning on mailing the application this week.
However, I have just discovered the new process the government has put in place to process applications in only 12 months now, with only one application kit for both in-Canada and overseas applications. They still accept the old application kits until the end of January, but processing times for the Paris office now indicate 12 months.
I'm not sure what to do now, do they still make the distinction between inland and outland - if I apply before January 31st? Do you think the Paris office is still faster? If I decide to switch to the new application kit, will I be allowed to leave Canada while my application is being processed (which is the reason why I originally decided to apply outland, so I could still travel)? Also, what if I don't get my PR before my work permit ends on Nov 28, 2017?
