It will be very hard to get a residency that is leftover after all the Canadian students have selected. You can look at previous years to see how many neurology residency spots were available for IMGs. If you don’t speak French you’d need to eliminate most residencies in Quebec. I would imagine if there are any neurology residencies left you are not looking at many spots. You are essentially looking at a minimum of 7 years if everything goes perfect to get licensed to practice in Canada and you may need to do a fellowship. You may be unable to find a job in Canada at the end of the training, You’d need to pass both licensing exams and interview for any leftover neurology residencies if they exist and match. That would be around 2 years. If you are really lucky and get a spot you’ll need to complete at 5 year residency and likely do at least a 1 year fellowship which has become pretty standard and a way to specialize your practice. You may struggle to get a job after that. Would really discourage moving to Canada and consider other countries if you want to immigrate.
