It must be nerve-wracking to use a fake passport at a border crossing.

Some fake passports are completely fake, and are not registered in the "issuing" country's database. They will be rejected when scanned at any airport and border crossing.

Other fake passports were authentic, but were stolen. These MIGHT scan, but you never know when the issuing country will report them as stolen, at which point suddenly they won't scan. In any event, they will expire and you won't be able to renew them.

Which type of passport would you be given? You won't know until you try at the border, and as PMM says, you might find yourself in jail.

Get a real passport issued by your own country and if you want to enter Canada, apply by filling out an application form like everyone else.

No need for censure.

There are many theories about why one might need several passports. I don't subscribe to them, but I do recognize that some people wanting multiple passports are not criminals, but rather people wanting to protect themselves against future threats by government -- by Big Brother.

These people tend to be worried about their home country getting hungry for more and more taxes, to the point where the tax people start confiscating assets -- whether fair or not. The USA has not reached this point yet, but the trend is evident: there is a proposed law in the wings that will declare an American a tax evader if he has an offshore bank account; only by amassing a lot of information about the offshore account will the taxpayer escape charges. Far from being innocent until proven guilty; government now feels entitled to assume guilt until the taxpayer proves hos own innocence.

Don't misunderstand: it is not the need to provide information that bothers some people, but rather the heavy and heavier hand of government that bothers many -- and they seek independence by having a different passport to travel without being detected and apprehended.

These people are not criminals. We might consider them paranoid, but they have broken no law. So to assume that one is a cru=iminal because he wants more than one passport is wrong.

Notwithstanding, getting false passports is extremely risky. Better to get citizenship and passport the legal way.

Yeah, but Toby as soon as a person presents a forged passport, they have committed a criminal offence. If they were not going to present it, why would they need it?

There's a point.

And I guess (speaking on "their" behalf), that if one is against bureaucracy in principle, because they are nosy, intrusive, and more and more bossy, and if bureaucracies use passports to control people, then evading their passport controls is a legitimate act of civil disobedience. No one gets hurt.

At least that is what I think those who try fake passports would argue. I would never use a fake passport myself for the very real risk that you mentioned: going to jail. But if we could buy a fake passport that worked, where we did not risk jail using it, would we? Would we pay a little money to bypass the delays and bureaucratic hoops of applying for a PR visa? I'd certainly consider it!

But my main point was not to defend fake passports; I was suggesting to some others that they curb their censure. This guy was merely asking about the fakes; that does not make him a bad person. Using one makes him a criminal technically, but not a bad person.

Additional comment:

Using a fake passport does not in itself make one a bad person, but criminals would use them a lot, thereby hurting society, and that is the real reason to discourage the practice. Dang criminals! They ruin it for everyone. ;D

One more question. What country passport will be the best for travelling in Canada except the Canadian one?

Off the top of my head, a US or Euro passport. Also Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore passports.

If I understand the logic, it is that Canada favours travelers from any rich country, who are therefore not likely to want to stay in Canada (illegally if necessary) to better their lot in life. There are many exceptions to this rule, of course.

Other viewpoints?

Ok, it's logical. But maybe someone had some experience with travelling in Canada with fake passports? What airport most safety for arrival to Canada with false passport?

Willson:

You're probably nt going to get a lot of replies, for at least two reasons. First you are asking someone to share their experience with criminal activity in a public forum. Not smart for them to do so.

Second, for someone to know which airports are safer than others, that person would have had to try each type of airport-- and presumably would still be in jail from trying to use a fake passport at one of the "stricter" airports.

A felon -- in prison for using a fake passport --- would be foolish to give illegal advice via the prison internet service.
