Hi, I need URGENT advise with my situation.

I was on a one year work permit (Vice President position) which expired on Jan 19, I submitted application for renewal on Jan 18 inland however my LMO was not ready by the time. I just got my LMO which I faxed to Case Processing Centre in Vegreville on Thursday March 3. I need to travel to Europe for a very important meeting on March 13. What should I do? Can anybody guide me how long will it take for CIC to process my work permit application?

Is there any way for me to expedite the process? If I will not be able to travel, it will cost my company a lot. Please advise.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
I had a coworker who was in the same situation, had applied to extend work permit, was under implied status and had to go to the US on a work trip. He said he was grilled for about an hour before they let him back into Canada on his return but they did let him in. If you go, take your LMO with you so you can show it when you come back as well as anything else that might prove that you are in the process of renewing plus proof that your trip was a work related trip.

Except that the OP is on implied status, and if he leaves, he will be readmitted, but he won't be able to work until he receives the work permit.

From the ENF 04 manual Sec. 13.3

they are seeking entry on implied status. A temporary resident with implied status that leaves
Canada is exempt from obtaining a temporary resident visa pursuant to R190(3)(f)(ii) if they
are returning from a visit solely to the United States or St. Pierre and Miquelon. Their status
as a temporary resident is extended until a decision is made and they are notified in
accordance with R183(5). They are not authorized to work or study until their application for a
renewal on their work or study permit has been approved
. To emphasize these conditions,
BSOs may consider documenting these foreign nationals on a visitor record. For guidelines
on when to issue a visitor record see section

Thanks for your advice, however my problem is I need to travel to Europe and I hold Indian passport therefore I need TRV to return back to Canada. I have two questions:

1. Is there any way to expedite the work permit process with CIC?
2. In case I need to leave Canada, can I go to Consulate in London and apply for TRV to return back to Canada?
I understand I may not be able to work upon my return till my work permit application gets approved but I will be gone for 2 weeks and hope meanwhile my work permit gets approved. Will my leaving country will affect my Work Permit application?

1. Yes, but if you have already applied it is too late. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2010/ob195A.asp
2. You can, but the processing time is minimum of 7 days and without a new work permit you may difficulties obtaining it.

Thanks PMM!

I spoke to call center agent regarding Emergency process and he suggested it is better that I go to Visa office (Seattle) and apply there. Issue is, I cannot travel this week. Can I use a representative and send the completed application with my LMO to Seattle? I saw on the website use of representative option but was not sure if that applies for in person. Will they accept a representative to carry my application?
