Need to Apply for Indian Police Clearance

I need to apply for Indian Police Clearance. I live in Chicago. Can I apply at Indian Consulate at Chicago ? Has anyone gone through this process ?

I live in Atlanta and I applied in Houston Consulate.

we filled up the forms and attached the fees and sent the copies ( notarised ) of passports. After a month, we sent the original passports.

I have a question.. Did you send both Police Clearance Fee($20) and Ref Fee ($20) at the time of sending the application ?

I live in Atlanta and I am planning to apply for police certificate from Houston Consulate.
can you please tell me What forms did you send to consulate. Did you send notarized copies first and later original passport. Did you send a letter explaining why you need police certificate.
