hi i applied for my SP on 17th of march for the may intake but nothing on my gc account apart from medical and biometrics update. last week i raised an webform and received approval in principle mail.
the university gave me a LOA which is valid for upcoming two more semesters. so technically, i can begin my classes this fall online from my home country but i would much rather be there and attend in person classes. now, is is advisable that i defer my program to january or start classes online this fall?
please do share your thoughts if possible.

I think you should defer. A two-stage approval does not bind you to start online classes. Moreover why would you pay such a hefty amount of money for some TED Talk videos (i mean online classes)? If Jan session is also online and border is not opened, then what you will do? I don't think that Canada is going to open its border before December 2020. In that case, you can travel in early December, then make yourself prepared for the classes to be started in Jan. I hope this helps.
this definitely helped, thank you.

it also states "if your application passes this first stage, we’ll let you know in your online account. This doesn’t guarantee that we’ll approve your application and issue you a study permit."

i haven't received anything on my online account, besides i submitted a full application along with biometrics and medicals.

oh yeah, but your thread was about deferral to winter 2021. maybe what he's trying to say that if you defer to the next intake, it would discredit your approval-in-principle as it only applies to Fall 2020 intake.

Do not defer. Borders will open eventually, it's not like Canada is going to keep the borders closed indefinitely. Things can change with in a matter of 1 week.

Secondly, do not expect notifications or updates to happen instantly. Just an example, If they say update in a week, that usually means with in a month ;).

Hi,

My brother is planning for a student visa Jan2021 intake from India. Before he applies, we would like to know that he had 13 Bcklogs in his degree but he cleared all the backlogs before he passed out and now he is having 3 years of work experience as well. Is this affect his visa process? We heard from the consultancy that he will get visa rejection because of backlogs. Can anyone please advise?

Let me explain. This 2-stage approval has been introduced for students who WANTS to register for online classes while at Home Country and later visa stamp on the passport in 2nd stage (which is not guaranteed) to allow them to travel to Canada. So, if you get stage-1 approval but later decide not to register for online classes (which is not a must) and defer to Jan, then upload new LOA via webform and wait for final visa approval. In the webform, you can explain that you waited for final visa approval as well as border to be opened to travel to Canada but due to time difference and poor internet connection you did not opt for online classes.

Or, if you have already deferred to Jan 2021 then upload the new LOA via webform and your application will be processed later.

For @tanzirmahim, as per yesterday's webinar, this 2-stage approval does not apply for you as you have previously completed all the steps. You will receive final visa approval through e-mail which will enable you to start online classes (if you want) and later passport will be requested when VAC will be opened for visa stamp on your passport. If you do not go for online classes, then get a new LOA and travel later in December. Immigration officer at the airport will see whether you have a valid TRV as well as LOA.
this is so helpful, thank you so much!
i have already submitted my passport with my application and my LOA is valid for the upcoming two semesters so i guess I won't have to send an webform with a new LOA.

again, THANK YOU SO MUCH for clarifying!
