I am having a valid driving license here in India from past 3 years. I am flying to Canada very soon. If I take a international driving license here, Will there be any use with that in Canada ?

Depending on which province you are going to, you can use the international license for a certain period of time.

If you really want to drive here in Canada, I suggest that along with your international license, you should also bring or get a driver's abstract (Authenticated) from your home country and when you get here go directly to the registry so they Can advice you if you are eligible to get a learner's test and straight to a road test to get a Canadian license. of course if you are a student the validity of the license will depend on your permit.

Goodluck!

Ps. a driver's abstract is a record of how long you have been driving and if you have had any traffic violations or all the activities you have had since you got your indian license. I do not know what it is called in your country but they should know what your talking about in your transportation office.

No you will need a driver's abstract. Unless you have a driver's license that is from a country that has a reciprocal license agreement with Canada or the province you plan to get a driver's license in. Then the rules are different. Look into you provinces' licensing website.

This is a link for Alberta.:

Yes, insurance can be expensive depending on your years of experience and driving record also age can be a factor.(My insurance was higher when I was below 25). Thus why you need a driver's abstract.
