Need specialist help for sponsoring my wife.

Hi all. I’ve been following this great web site since long as it has been very helpful. Now I need your suggestion for sponsoring my wife.

Background story: I’m a new immigrant, went Canada early this year, got my PR Card & SIN Card. At that time I was single. After staying in Canada for couple of months I returned to my home country in Asia. Very recently I got married. I want to sponsor my wife while living with her in my country in Asia; then after she is approved for Visa, me & my wife want to go to Canada together & live there permanently.

Now my questions are:

1. Should I inform the Canadian Authority about my marriage? If so, how should I do that?

2. Can I sponsor my wife while living with her in my country in Asia?

3. Can I stay with my wife in my country in Asia until she is approved for Visa and then go to Canada together?

Need your input in this regard.

To answer your questions...

1. Should I inform the Canadian Authority about my marriage? If so, how should I do that?
Yes, you will have to since you will be applying under 'Family Class'

2. Can I sponsor my wife while living with her in my country in Asia?
If you are a PR then you have to be in Canada to sponsor her. IF you are a Canadian citizen then you can sponsor from abroad.

3. Can I stay with my wife in my country in Asia until she is approved for Visa and then go to Canada together?
See Answer #2 :)

I'd suggest you do it from within Canada itself as it takes only a few months. You can always go visit her every few months.

Hi dreamerchant001,
You cant sponsor your wife if you are outside of Canada. But you have an option that you apply for the visit visa for your wife, bring her with you. After you reach there prepare the application for PR of your wife. Normally it takes 6 months to get processed. So let her be with you for 6 months and once she goes back to your home country she will recieve PR visa in a week or two after which she can come back to you.

Actually the chances of your wife getting a tourist visa to come to Canada are very slim. To get a TRV, you would need to prove that you have intention to return to your home country when the visa expires. With a husband in Canada, it would be difficult to convince Cnd. Immigration that your wife will actually leave at the end of her visa. There are already many discussions about this on this board. Please do a search.

Since you are a PR, you MUST be in Canada to sponsor your wife.

thanks to ariell, harupit200281 & brighteyes.

As it seems from your replies, I you MUST be in Canada to sponsor my wife. In that case, I've further question:

Can I go to Canada and submit application for PR of my wife, then return back to my home country and stay till her application/PR is processed?

need your advice.....

It is not enough to just "be in Canada" at the moment you mail your sponsorship application. You have to be living in Canada to sponsor.

Leon..thanx sooo much

another Q for your kind advice:

Which Canadian authority should I inform about my status change from "Single" to "Married"? And how should I inform them? Is it applicable both for PR and SIN Card? Is it to CIC or Service Canada or both?

thanx in advance.....
