Hi all,

I'm hoping somebody can put my mind at peace as I'm hearing various different answers right now and not any correct one.

Currently I'm on a 2 year working holiday visa which is due to end this November coming. So I was looking to apply for a PR but unfortunately I didn't have enough points to get a PR.
So I spoke with an immigration lawyer and he advised me to study a diploma that is more than 8 months of length and in doing so I will get my points up to 450-480 area.

So I got my Study permit and Work permit ( Part time ) which is due to end in March 2018. My course will end in February.

So between November and March I will be working Part time. My concern is how quick is the turn around time in getting my 10 month work visa (lenght of course is 10 months). I get my Diploma in February. So I have exactly a month to get my work permit. Has anybody experienced were CIC would extend the study and work permit in cases like this? Is this something I can extend from now? If they reject my extension would that have any issues in the future for applying for a PR?

Any information would be much appreciated.

Out of interest how many points did you get before the immigration lawyer gave their advice.

For PGWP as long as you apply whilst your study permit is still valid and within 90 days of getting your course completion letter you move to an implied status pending PGWP approval. So key is to get the PGWP application in before the study permit expires.

I was only getting about 350-370 points..

So are you saying I can apply for my PGWP from December? Considering I'm due to get my Diploma in February or can I only apply for my PGWP the moment I get my Diploma?

As regards to rejection of PGWP do you know how long I have to remain in the country? Does rejection mean immediate cancellation of my work permit?

You can only apply for PGWP when you have your confirmation of completion of your course so if that is Feb then Feb.
