hello,
i got a PR under FSW last year and landed in toronto on 6 june 2013 as a single status. After getting my PR card i went back my home country Nepal in August 2013. Now I just married (May 2014) and am returning to toronto in June 2014. Now I am planning to sponsor my wife after 3-4 months but I don't know much about the application forms to proceed my application...so can someone plz help me which documents I need to fill up as a sponsor and forms to fill up for spouse. I went through the application forms online but got confused...so plz someone help me to clear some confusions..

1. sponsor need to fill up the following forms (true?)
- IMM 5443
- IMM 1344
- IMM 5481
- RECEIPT 5401
2. spouse need to fill up the following forms as principal applicant (true?)
- IMM 0008
- IMM 5406
- IMM 5669
- IMM 5285
3. I am a sponsor, so do I need to submit police certificates and medical report again or these are just for spouse?
4. Do I need to submit no. 1 & 2 documents together to Case Processing Centre in Mississauga, Ontario?
5. additional information if any?

Hoping to get sufficient information soon from you guys. thanks for your support

hello uromas

1. IMM 1344, 5481, 5540 + 5491 (doc checklist)
the other two are optional: 5409 (statuory declaration of common law union) - this applies only if you would have a commonlaw partner in Canada that signs the sponsorship agreement with you - not your case
5476 - use of a representative - only if you decide to use a lawyer or something like that.

- 5443 is the checklist for INLAND sponsorship (if your wife would be with you in Canada and waits with you throughout the process) - not your case so that is not required, OUTLAND checklist is 5491

the receipt 5401 is necessary only if you decide to pay the sponsorship fees at a bank/institution. if you decide to pay online (recommended), you do not need this , because the CIC site will direct you to a "online receipt" that you need to print out and fill in some details (such as UCI, name, etc. - for the credit card holder). also regarding the fees, first one is around 100 $CAD for the sponsor alone and the rest are for your spouse. thing is you can pay the ones for your spouse LATER when they request it, but do NOT do that, it will delay the process by months (when they will request your wife's passport, if you didn't pay the fee they will request it then and it will delay the process). so, pay it from the beginning. it should be exactly $1040.

also, regarding the forms, make sure you downloaded the latest version (sometimes CIC updates them! make sure to check before sending the app!)

2. all apply, except 5285. that's for inland. you're filind OUTLAND so no need for that.

make sure you fill everything on the computer because IMM 0008 will generate a barcode page after you press the "validate" button in the form. make sure you sign everywhere provided. watch out, there's one with a barcode page for you too (sponsor) . i don't remember the exact form

IMM 5490 (sponsored spouse questionnaire) is the longest your wife needs to complete. you'll notice some questions ask a lot of details. if space is insufficient, attach a sheet of paper after, writing your name (sponsor) + date of birth, same for your wife - name (applicant) + date of birth; after note the FORM (IMM xxxx) and the question answered/continued answer.

make sure to check your country specific information guide, because they vary depending on the visa office.

3. you're the sponsor and you do NOT need to submit any of that, your wife needs to have a police certificate + medical done. as for the medical exam, it will expire after 1 year (or it will be extended by the VO, not your call), so don't do it now for example and submit the app many months later. at the medical exam, your wife will receive a eMedical receipt that she needs to include in her app.

4. yes, you submit EVERYTHING into one envelope at the CPC Mississauga. Do a envelope for your forms&relevant documents, one envelope for your wife's forms + documents . and another envelope for proof of relationship.

it's also relevant that you, as a PR, can't leave Canada during the processing of your wife's app. if you were a citizen you were allowed to leave but it's not the case here.

that's all i can think of :) good luck with your application!

These are the forms for Outland sponsorship: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp#immigrate

Follow this guide to find out which forms apply to you and how to fill them out: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3900ETOC.asp

All forms both for sponsor and immigrant must be sent together to CPC-M (Case Processing Center - Mississauga)

Regarding the fees, if you are sponsoring only your wife, you must pay (and include proof of payment in the application):
- Sponsor $75
- Applicant $475
There is one more fee called RPRF (Right of Permanent Residence Fee), of $490, which you can pay at a later time. But keep in mind this is not recommended, since it can slow down your process by a couple of months.

Thank you so much for your valuable information. i will keep posting other queries if i encountered during documentation and hope to receive the same kind of support in the days to come. I got one more question....sponsored person in the checklist 5491 means my wife not me right? and family members mean children if applicable?

yes, the sponsored person is your wife. as for family members, yes, if you and your wife have any children, these would be included in the application too (if you want to bring them with you). if you don't include them now, sponsoring them afterwards will be impossible.
