Need some advice. didn't renew passport

I have not been able to renew my previous passport and I have to apply for my citizenship now. so i have got a gap which i have to explain to cic. . i couldn't renew my passport as i had no plans to travel and the embassy was not taking passport renewals because of covid 19 pandemic. however they have resumed taking passport applications and i have been scheduled for an appointment to renew my passport sometime in November. my question is that do i have to tell cic that I have an appointment to renew my passport or do i just say i didnt renew it because i had no plans to travel . I came into canada as an international student, progressed to work permit and pr status. please i need some advice

I mean, you're going to have to sort of do both - tell them why you don't have a passport and tell them that you're applying for a new one, I suppose.
