I am planning to move to Toronto in March 2017 and looking for a 1 bed room apartment/Condo preferably close to the downtown Toronto including all amenities. Budget flexible around $1200 including utilities.

Further info:

Budget? Flexible around $1200.

Also Just more details: I am shifting with my wife with no kids so I am more interested in 1 BR or a condo (Or an spacious studio). I am shipping all my household thing from India including furniture and full kitchen stuff without any electronic items. so I don't need a fully furnished house. I need a place with all basic amenities. Also washer, dryer in the unit would be preferred.

Do you require parking? NO

I will be using public transport but I don't wanna spend too much time on traveling so I would prefer a place close to the downtown, Toronto. 30-40 minutes transit time should be fine. My work location : 22 Adelaide St W Toronto, ON M5H 0A9

When are you looking to move in? 10th March 2017

I have already started looking at kijiji.ca/ viewit.ca and other websites but looking for some personal experiences here like.

Your personal experience of finding an apartment?
Property name, location, rent? (If you are already living in rented apartment which is close to my need)
Agent contact info? (Based on your previous experience)

I can be reached out to kartik.srivastava24@gmail.com as well!!

Any help would be appreciated. Hope to here from you soon!!

Thanks

You really need to be in Toronto physically to be able to find a decent apartment. The competition is really high and landlords won't ever choose someone currently overseas.

Also look at craigslist.

But they might be able to takeover an existing lease (via a representative):

They shouldn't do that without seeing the unit and meeting with the landlord in person.

Dont move into a place unless you see it for yourself. move into a place you like as that is what you are going to call home.

I want to second the previous remarks: Look for a short term solution (e.g. AirBnB or one of the newcomer services) then look for an actual apartment once you are over here.

Never transfer money to a "landlord" without having seen the apartment yourself.

I live in London and when I was looking for a place in london, I saw some really nice houses within my budget and enquiries about it. The landlord would then tell me that they were out of town and wanted to make sure I was not a time waster and a genuine person who had a months rent and a months deposit. I'd have to go to western union and transfer money to a friend of my choice of that amount and email them the proof of transfer. Once that was done, they would post the keys to me. Sounded fishy but house hunting online isn't the same as ordering clothes online. I was saved of this scam as it sounded fishy to me and I googled parts of the texts and realised that others were scammed. I'm not saying that this will happen in Canada but scammers are all over the world.

So you guys don't pay online on unseen hotel / airbnb rooms / cabins during travel?

Renting:
First and last months rent = $1,600 to $4,000
Options to confirm the existence and identity of landlord = non apart from person-to-person interaction

Some nights in a hotel/airbnb/cabin = $100-500
Options to confirm the existence and identity of hotel/airbnb/cabin = website/online reviews

That's the difference.
