I need urgent help!!!
I will be completing my course byAug 25 but my study permit expires by Aug 31. Since my course ends by aug 25 I will get the official letter from my college ;say by first week of September. When I met the international office in my college they gave me a solution to this and I found out couple of more.I want ur advice by telling me which option is best!!!!! *****note right now I am doing 4 courses in my final semester of 2year program
1.apply a bridge study permit(advice by my college)
2.drop a course and get a extension letter from college and apply for extension( advice by my friends)
3. Change my program to 3year which is just a extension of my 2year course and apply For extension(advice by my friends)
Your help will be greatly appreciated...

Thank you

I think option 1 makes more sense. After completing your program, you still need to be in status to apply for the post-gradute work permit and 5 days is not enough time to get the documents you need for it.

I found this on the McMaster University website:
Post-Graduation Employment

International students who graduate from a Canadian university may work for one year after completing degree requirements in a job related to their field of study. They must provide a letter from a potential employer within 90 days of completion of degree requirements, indicating an offer of employment, to obtain an Work Permit from Canada Immigration.

Changes to Immigration Regulation have been proposed to allow recent college and university graduates a bridge extension that will allow them to apply for a post-graduate work permit within 90 days of notification of graduation. In the interim, we have implemented a procedure whereby CPC-Vegreville can issue a one-time bridge Study Permit extension to applicants whose intent is to seek post-graduate employment.

In order to apply for a one-time bridge extension to allow students the full 90 days to look for employment after notification of graduation, students must complete, as usual, the IMM1249 "Application to Change Conditions or Extend My Stay in Canada" [http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp]. Additionally,
they must include:

-the usual information submitted with an application to renew a study permit;
-evidence of recent graduation;
-an indication that they are actively pursuing post-graduate employment opportunities (this can be in the form of a letter).

Note: the 90 day period is not being extended - only the Study Permit
is being extended up to a maximum of 90 days from graduation to protect eligibility for a post-graduate Work Permit (for example, if a student's study permit expires 50 days after graduation, they would only be eligible for an extension of 40 days).

Failure to meet eligibility requirements for a Work Permit
within the 90 days will result not only in loss of opportunity to apply
for the Work Permit, but also will result in the graduated student having to
leave Canada as they will be out of status (once the extended Study
Permit expires).

Normal fees apply ($125 for a Study Permit renewal)

I agree with Bella. Options your friends suggest seem to require more evidence such as financial statement or you will lose enrollment fees. Assuming your college and your program is the one eligible for post graduate work permit, I think option 1 would be the best bet. You should be given the 90 days bridge study permit, during which time you can apply for post graduate work permit.

For #1. you will have to complete your program first and get a letter from your school saying you have finished the degree requirements
For #2. you can write a letter explaining that you are actively searching for jobs and for any jobs you apply, not the job ID number and mention it in the letter.

The main issue is with the first one(1). If my college gives me a letter saying i have successfully completed my degree requirements i would apply for work permit itself.My college can give that letter in September 1st week which is after my study permit expire date

You will not know if there is an alternative if you don't try or ask.

1. meet with your academic advisor and go through all classes you've taken - this person can confirm that you will complete the program by a certain date(may be the date the class ends) and write you a letter
2. even the dean of your faculty can do this for you
3. some universities have an online "degree audit" thing, where you can actually run it and it will tell if you have met your degree requirements

With any or all of the above, you should be able to apply for a study permit extension. You would include all other documents normally requred for a study permit application and a letter explaining that your current permit expires on Aug 31st and because you need a valid study permit to apply for the post-graduate work permit, you are applying for a "bridge study permit". Get someone at the international office to go over the application before you send it.
