I came to Canada six years ago on a study permit. I attended a Canadian University for 4 years, graduated in 2009, and I am now on a post graduate work permit.
I got married to a Cuban citizen last year (2009) and I applied for immigration under the FSW in March 2010 as the principal applicant with my husband as a dependent. My husband is still in Cuba while I continue living in Canada. I guess my first question is to anyone here who married a non Canadian resident from a different nationality than their own and applied for immigration. What was your experience? Did CIC question your marriage? Any successs stories? Timelines?

My second question is to anyone who sent in their application in March: any word from Sydney yet? How long does it take to hear from them?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

To Mahek:

The choice of our marriage doesn't concern the CIC & neither affects the Canadian PR process. At most it delays the case a bit due to 'security checks', but nothing serious.

Yes, I'm one such case & am a successful PR today. So, u at least have one example now. There'd be many many in this forum & otherwise too. So, relax on that front !

About your 2nd ques. It's too early to probe anything on your case file. It usually takes 2 months+ nowadays to get the AOR [depends on the workload from time to time].

Some info on the various checks is given here [read response No.4]:

All the best !

Thanks so much Qorax. I am also wondering (for when the time comes) : when I send my application +required documentation to Buffalo do I need to send anything to the visa office in Havana (my husband is Cuban and he currently lives there) or does everything gets processed together in Buffalo? If everything gets processed in Buffalo can my husband get his medical done in Havana? and when they ask for the passport to issue the visa will they stamp it in Buffalo or Havana? I am sooo confused. Thanks for you feedback in advance.

1. One family is considered as one unit. -One CHC. All in Buffalo.
2. Yes, he can do his meds in Havana.
3. His pps [as like yours] will be stamped in Buffalo.
