Need Help whether I should apply for visitor visa or not

Hi Everyone
I have a situation
I came to canada on study permit in september 2007, studied for one year and for my PG work permit in oct 2009
I got work permit extension twice through HRDC but got rejected for work permit extension in january 2012
I am currently on a study permit but I am not studying in any college
I have applied for my immigration under CEC
I was thinking whether I should apply for a visitor visa instead of being on study permit or not
What are the chances of getting an approval if I apply for a Visitor Visa from within Canada

Even though you are not in school, the study permit allows you to stay in Canada until it expires. Why do you want to change to visitor instead of trying to obtain another work permit?

Why was your work permit rejected? You may want to order your GCMS notes and see details of why it was rejected and then try to rectify that.
